I took a risk with my mom’s stagnant pothos, and I’m worried I’ve ruined it. I learned the plant was about 7 years old but hadn’t grown much. It was mostly a few stems each 2-3 feet long that were wrapped around a pole with 2-5 leaves on the ends. I took a bunch of cuttings to prop them, and they are doing great! But the original plant, not so much. All of the roots looked good, so I repotted it then trimmed down the leggy stems and buried them back into the soil hoping the nodes would root. It looked fine for a while, but now the leaves that were left are turning color or getting black spots. I’m relatively new to the plant world, so it wouldn’t surprise me if I’ve done something wrong. Maybe the pot is too big so it’s staying too damp too long? I don’t see any signs of pests. I have it in a room with lots of light during the day and a bit of direct sun in the evening. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

For a new plant person, it sounds like you are doing all the right things. These will usually survive almost anything. The plant has just gone thru high stress. This may be the result as it adjusts to the changes. If it was in shade previously, then add more light gradually. I would say just wait a little longer and see what happens.

I didn’t think about the change from lower light previously to brighter light now. Maybe I’ll protect it a bit more from the sun for a while and see if that helps. Thank you!
