My mom sent me this plant from 1800 Flowers. The last time this happened they all died from the cold. (My January birthday does not coincide with plants. šŸ˜‚) I wanted to repot it to get it into warmer and less saturated soil, so I popped it out and… it doesn’t have roots? I read money trees have shallow roots, but this seems like NO roots. What should I do? Is it already a goner? Should I root it in water? Repot it?

It looks like root rot to me unfortunately. I’m dealing with the same thing for one of my plants. Root rot is usually caused by sitting in moist soil for too long or too high humidity. The roots will get really soggy and will eventually fall off. My best idea would be to repot it in some dry soil.

Thanks! I was afraid of that. Maybe one year mom’ll get it right… šŸ˜‚

You may be able to cut off the root rotted part and propagate it in some water. I’m not exactly sure on how to propagate a money plant because I don’t own one, but YouTube will be your best friend. Hope it works out for you this year!!

That's pretty standard. If they aren't mushy or smelly they are fine. You may want to add in some rooting powder to help it out. Maybe suggest a plant store to her that has winter shipping šŸ˜† 🤣
