Alright folk I need so help, my mom got this money tree about two years ago for her birthday and it’s been in our kitchen. It got no direct sunlight, but indirect light every single day and slowly each of the trunks started dying and wrinkling and getting mushy so I’m trying to save it by putting it in water, but I’m curious if anyone knows what’s happening. There were five and now there’s one. I pulled off two of the leaves because they started yellowing at the tips and I panicked because that’s how they’ve all been slowly dying.

Hi, this has happened to me before. This is due to the plant being over watered

Happened to my bamboo plant from overwatering. I would say take it out of the water and try planting it. Give it some time to return to its glory lol

Do you think the roots are dead?

Maybe, it’s definitely root rot i would cut off the rotten part of the stem at the bottom

This is root rot. I just had the same issue with mine while it was in regular potting soil. I had leftover cactus soil and tropical soil, so mixed those so it had plenty of drainage and it looks much happier and producing healthy new leaves. There are also soil blends online specifically for money trees you may want to look into. Keep in mind these are trees so they hold their own water supply for quite awhile and don’t need super frequent watering. Maybe once a month or less.
