Hello! I have a Boston fern and and English ivy in my bathroom so they can get a good humidity! However, my bathroom is poorly ventilated and it’s so humid that their soil kind of never dries. Has anybody else had this problem? I don’t want them to rot but it’s the only place in my old house that it’s even a bit humid.

    Hello, yes, I live in a region with high humidity. I try to water a little less because if the soil take to long to dry, the roots can suffocate and get root rot. I have learned to add extra perlite or vermiculite to help so I don’t overwater. If the light isn’t efficient this can cause slower drying. I’d supplement them with a grow light. That way you can increase the photosynthesis and that alone will help dry up the soil a little quicker. GL and happy growing!

    I assume they both have drainage because the dark planter looks questionable. Besides making the soil faster draining and adding a grow light, adding a mini fan to provide some circulation may help. Switching to unglazed terracotta would probably make a huge difference also. And one more, make sure the pot is appropriately sized to the size of the root system.

    Neither plants need high humidity. They were popular parlor plants back in grandma’s time especially the Boston fern. No need to keep them in the bathroom.🪴🍀
