My philodendron white wizard is just not thriving. It is putting out smaller and smaller leaves, so I checked the roots and moved it from soil to water (a week ago so I’m not expecting a miracle recovery yet) because the roots were dying off. I think it gets decent light from the grow light and I’ve always been careful not to overwater. I’m worried that my pink princess is going the same way, as it’s lost three older leaves in a week. What am I doing wrong?!

What soil are they in? I was given a sick Pink Princess and was advised to put it in perlite rather than water as it wouldn’t do well in water and also to place it in a spot with bright light whilst it recovers. She’s been a slow burner but there are definitely roots very slowly growing. I tend to use a chunky soil mix for most of my plants as it’s well draining and doesn’t retain water like the pre made bagged stuff does.

They are in a specific monstera/philodendron chunky soil mix from soil ninja, but they still seemed to hold a lot of moisture. I’ll try perlite, thanks :)

All of my plants are doing amazing in a custom soil mix that’s famous on Instagram. It’s a 12 quart bag of Fox Farm Ocean Forest potting mix, an 8 quart bag of orchid potting mix, and an 8 quart bag of perlite. If you look up @channygrayhome on Instagram, she also gives a perfect size container to mix and store it in.

That sounds really similar to what they are currently in. At least I’m doing that bit right! 😂
