Hey y’all (sorry the pic isn’t very bright) I have my Philodendron Hederaceum Brasil here and I’m just a tad bit concerned for her. First of all I haven’t had her for very long (about a month) and other than this she is thriving and doing well. I’ve been noticing these little brown dots on her leaves, something that I’m not sure what it means and what I could do to fix it. If anybody knows please help me I love this plant!

In my experience, they could either be sun spots or rust spots. The leaves look healthy in the picture so I’m fearful it is rust fungus spots. From there you will have to chop off the bad leaves and spray the roots with the copper fungicide and peroxide and that will clean the roots then put it in new soil but not in the same pot it was in. It’s like dealing with plant STDs I swear

It’s only on about two of my leaves, and they’re rather small spots. Will it get worse? Does it spread quickly?

I had it on a good sized mature monstera. It was on only a couple leaves when I got it and then I’d say I waited until the dots were on half of the leaves before I resorted to beheading. But my monstera is so happy now that I pruned it and put it in new soil and a bigger pot that one time 2 years ago. I don’t know how your philodendron would do with regenerating I feel like it would be a hydra head very quickly if it’s rust spots. Maybe just wait and see what it does in case it’s sunburnt?

I think that is what I will do, mostly because I’m broke and cant really afford a new pot right now.

It doesn’t look like a tragic event like fungal rust unless the spots have red powdery substance like dusty rust. Fungal issues can be treated with a commercial fungicide spray treatment. Follow label directions if it’s fungal. It looks dry. It could need more humidity. Winter indoor humidity can be a lot lower especially if heaters are running. Use an hygrometer to measure the humidity nearby. Add a humidifier if the humidity levels are below 50% most of the time. You can put the plant in an enclosure or cover with a clear cloche or plastic bag to increase the humidity. It could be edema where a few cells pop to release excess water. Then, the cells dry out leaving a dry spot. Water less often to allow the soil to dry out more. It’s probably not an issue with only two leaves affected. Check for pests. Treat with insecticidal soap., if any found. 🪴🍀
