I noticed this plant was dying at my work and I had to save it. First two photos were taken at work yesterday but just moving it caused the remaining leaves to fall off. I think it’s a dracaena but I’m not too sure. Definitely was overwatered and the base of the stem seems to be rotting heavily and I’m pretty sure the entire thing is at this point. I’ve given it fresh moisture control potting soil and will have lots of sunlight today. The signs of life at the base need urgent saving. Help!!

I think it’s a good sign that there’s new growth at the bottom. You could check the roots and remove any dead/rotten roots and go from there (repot if you need…). I’d make sure to get it on a good/spaced out watering schedule so the rooting doesn’t come back!

Thanks for the response! I repotted it but I’ll definitely look for rotten roots again. I’m worried that the stem would potentially be dangerous to the new growth, just not sure if it’s salvageable:(

How were the roots when you repotted? Healthy?

I believe so, I didn’t think about it until I brought it home and really looked at it. Nothing that caught my attention at least. I’ll probably start on propagating the small guy later today if I don’t see any other advice. Thanks!!

I think with some time and luck, she’ll come back! In my experience, once something rots it doesn’t come back. I almost wonder if you should chop the new growth and propagate it to be safe, but I’d wait on another user to confirm bc I’ve never had this plant before!
