Hi all Posting from London, UK. My Ficus Audrey needs some help. As you can see from the pics it went from lovely and healthy in March 2025 to top heavy today. How do I get it bushy again? It’s in my bedroom which is North West facing, first on my chest of drawers away from the window so shady/indirect light. I decided to move it to the window after it lost loads of leaves so it gets more light. I tried cutting deep notches in the trunk and covering with root hormone powder but that didn’t work. I do fertilise it based on Planta’s recommendations but it’s been stuck at its current state for months. Any ideas?

    How long ago did you do the notching and hormone?

      In May this year. From what I can see they have healed over. Perhaps I didn’t cut deep enough? I also pruned it a little on top recently to see if that would produce more branching/leaves

    Try only one or two at a time, otherwise the struggling plant has too much work to do and not enough energy. I’ve used Keiko/cloning paste, which is similar to what you did, with success but only on two nodes at a time. For thick ficus, it can take like 3 months to get a good-sized leaf. Did any sap come out of the cuts? Be sure to wipe that away so the hormone can absorb.

      I did 3 notches. I cannot remember if I wiped away sap. Do you suggest waiting longer or trying again with just one and go deeper?

      Try one again, not necessarily deeper but watch for the sap. If your top-chop was within the last month though, I’d wait.

    I would just leave it alone. It looks more like it wants more light and more humidity! Maybe consider a grow light in addition to the North West window!
