I've had this ficus benjamina tree for a couple years now. It's been struggling! I finally decided to repot it today. I'm not sure what else I can do for it.... do I prune it, leave it alone..... Also, I have very persistent cats 😒 that like dirt. They are now all of a sudden super interested in getting into this pot. Does anyone have suggestions on how to cover the top of pots so cats can't get in? I've tried to make a makeshift cover!! I've used netting before- but I have one cat that isn't stopped by much.

Are you sure that’s not a money tree? The leaves and stems look very similar to mine

That is a money tree. The roots are suffocating with that cover over the pot. Looks like it is not drying out properly.

I literally just put the cover on it today- I repotted it and had to put something over it because the cats were super interested in it since it was in a new pot. I don't plan to keep it on, but it will have to stay for now.

Nvm forget my last comment citronella is toxic to cats. However cats do hate citrus scents. Id experiment with different findings that arent so toxic but have similar scent. Perhaps a gravel top layer? Not full proof but its worth a shot.
