Haworthia ‘Moon Shadow’ I think I’m killing it and idk how. There’s small new growth in the middle but my plant is brown. I don’t overwater it. It’s in direct sunlight in an East facing window. I’ve had fungus gnats recently but this plant didn’t seem to get them?

Fungus gnats eat at the roots especially on younger plants. You might have some root rot, meaning, your roots can’t breathe. Sometimes clearing away the soil from the root ball helps it air out and breathe again. If the roots are black, then you got rot. If just a small amount of black roots then cut if away to give plant fresh soil and air.

Succulents don’t need frequent watering like the typical tropical plant. The soil needs to have lots of aggregates to let water quickly drain or the roots will rot. You can have rot even without fungus gnats. Standard potting mix holds too much water on the roots causing rot, especially if it has peat moss. Use a mix designed for succulents/cacti. I can’t tell the type of this one. I recommend replacing the soil with one with more aggregates. Check for root rot and treat. Let the soil completely dry out and then a bit more before watering again. 🪴🍀
