What in the world is this sugary white powder on my syngonium? I just watered it Friday and I water when it’s early 100% dry. It’s treated with systemic granules and lives near a west window. I’ve had this plant for well over a year and it’s NEVER ever done this! Any help would be great!

Powdery mildew for sure. Can be caused by high humidity and low light.

there’s definitely no high humidity in my house at this time of year, haha. it gets decent west light too 🤷🏽‍♀️

It could be powdery mildew, but I’ve never seen that on a houseplant before. The best you can do is to cut off any leaves that have that and spray a fungicide on the remainder. I’d treat it every 1-2 weeks afterwards. I think to help prevent it you can make sure there’s plenty of air flow around the plant, so don’t crowd it.

yeah I googled it and didn’t see anything that looked exactly like what I found. I washed off the plant and sprayed it down. I’m keeping an eye on it for sure. it’s fortunately not near any plant too so that’s good. I’ll be sure to turn my ceiling fan to help with airflow.

Is it scented like Carpet Fresh? My ex used to sprinkle the carpet deodorizer like he was salting beef on a rotating barbecue pit! I found it in my plants! Realized it was Carpet Fresh when rinsing the plants. It’s granular.

Yeah, I was going to suggest maybe something falling from the ceiling if it’s not powdery mildew

Is it crusty or soft powder? If it’s crusty it’s likely your plant expelling salt etc from your water it doesn’t like especially if you are using tap water when watering.

it was definitely more crusty than powdery!!! it felt more like salt than sugar. yeah I definitely use tap water. thanks!

If you filter your tap water through a Brita this will definitely stop this from happening.
