Help! My plant is losing leave like crazy for the past 2 -3 months. The first photo is from march. I’ve tried moving it to different areas with different lighting and watering more/less but it’s still looking barer every day

Can you share more details about this plants care routine? Lighting, watering, fertilizer, temperature, outdoor/indoor, etc.

It gets a decent amount of sunlight where it’s at, it’s in my living room maybe 5 feet from our large window and sliding glass door. I water it every ~12 days by soaking the bottom In a bowl of water. It was looking very good for the first 1.5 years I had it and only recently started looking sad. I haven’t really changed anything about the routine that might have triggered this

Check for root rot and treat for it if needed. Make sure its soil has good drainage and is an appropriate mix for the species. It looks dry, so try giving it a 20 minute bottom-watering soak (make sure it drains really well afterwards!) And then do normal care (start with watering thoroughly about once a week. If new leaves turn brown/crispy, water more frequently. If new leaves turn yellow from the tip, water less often.) Leave it in its current spot for now, it seems to have decent light. Also try to be gentle and gradual about care adjustments; frequent changes can shock plants. As it heals, you could also prune it to make some space between the branches; plants tend to like a bit of air flow between and around them and it's just very dense at the moment. Also check if the plant is deciduous or sub-tropical; if that's the case then it may be normal for it to drop leaves in winter and it may want a rest or dormant period.

I fear it has to do with its roots and needing to be repotted :,( since it’s a kokedama potting style I may need to take it back to the plant store I got it from to have them redo it. I’ve been hoping to avoid that since it will be quite expensive

If you suspect root issues and can't repot, you can pour some hydrogen peroxide in (as if you were watering with it) just in case. (If you aren't sure if it has root issues, just do one treatment. If you become certain that it has root rot, you can re-treat every three days or every other day.) Since you can't check the roots visually, look up your plant species and learn exactly what signs to look for (catching it early helps, but fungicides can burn the roots, so you can do occasional (once a month or less) preventative treatments, but should try not to overdo it.) You can also assess rot by smell; it does start to get a dank and nasty odor that can help you know what's going on without repotting

Also kokedama planting is fairly straightforward; you can look up tutorials to diy one if you do end up needing to repot
