Is this whitefly damage? This is my variegated sea hibiscus/mahoe. He is the love of my collection and the bane of my life. He has had whiteflies all summer. I’ve been managing them, but in the last two days he’s had a ton of leaves turn suddenly yellow (see pic) and developed this brown pattern on others (first pic). Does it look like whitefly damage? Some context. For whiteflies, I’ve: -treated with neem oil -grown marigolds -washed him frequently Nothing has eradicated them, but I’ve managed the numbers. Weeks when I can’t mitigate he’s gotten a few yellow leaves but leaves stop turning yellow when I’ve gotten their numbers down. Other problems he has had: -out growing his pot. I repotted him twice this year because he’s had two fits of bad health and I suspected root rot. Both times they were super healthy but he was root bound badly. He’s taken off after I’ve repotted him both times -being nutrient deficient. The nursery recommend 6-12-6 fertilizer last time he had a bad spell, but I was repotting him anyway, so I just chose really good soil -being too dry (he needs water twice a day during Texas summers) -being too wet. Jury is out on this one but with our 50-90 degree weather he’s been staying wetter and seemed over watered at the pre-set once a day timing. He could now be too dry again though the soil seems fine. Bonus question: both the latest white fly treatment (pryerthin) and the 6-12-6 fertilizer is 1 diluted gallon to 1,000 acres. How am I supposed to scale that to a single bonsai? I can’t seem to find more reasonably measured products. If he wasn’t so sentimental, I wouldn’t be so desperate, but he is and the nursery sold off the mother plant (he is my second attempt) he is from so any help is greatly appreciated. The purple pot is when I got him last October and the second one is him a few weeks ago.
