What are these insects? I bought this monstera Thai constellation from Rona but they were in self watering pots so I was going to repot them, when I looked closer today I see all these little bugs running and flying around the soil.. I looked under the leaves because I thought pests usually stay there but they are only in the soil and around the pot.. I’ve never dealt with pests before with my plants and I’m worried that they already flew to my other plants and are infesting them too, what do I do? Are they going to fly to my other plants,, and how do I get rid of them? Are they eating my plant? I don’t know💔

    Adult fungus gnat. They like to breed in wet and soggy soils. If the plant can stand being dry for bit, that would starve the insects of what they need.

    They look like fungus gnats which are harmless but annoying; you can treat with a dilution of water and hydrogen peroxide: The usual dilution is: * 1 part 3% hydrogen peroxide to 3–4 parts water * For example: * 250 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide + 750–1,000 ml of water. … it should kill the larvae but will not damage the plant.

    Fungus gnat larvae eat at the roots of your plant and fungus gnats multiply quickly. The yellow sticky traps capture and kill adults fairly effectively. I agree with the hydrogen peroxide to kill larvae. You could also repot. It is possible the adults have laid eggs in soil of your other plants. So you could do sticky traps and peroxide watering for now. You can’t do peroxide every watering bc it also kills beneficial bacteria and such. If you continue to have problems, you can use mosquito bits “tea” when you water your plants. This also kills larvae and breaks the life cycle

    I agree, definitely fungus gnats. You could also try mosquito dunks/bits if you live in a place where you can get those (instead of the peroxide mixture).

    I experienced this as well in my Chinese Evergreen, which is also in a self-watering. I’d recommend waiting til the soil is completely dry, not until the reservoirs empty, but if you don’t really like it in that type of pot, it’s okay repotting it, although a little hard.
