April

These sad hydrangeas were planted by the previous owner and they keep getting black spots on the leaves. I usually remove the ones that are spotted and only water at the base, not on the leaves, but the spots keep coming back, and I don’t want to keep taking off all the leaves. Not sure what else I can do to help this guy out.

Also, it is in the front yard, west facing, so it does get afternoon/evening sun

By no means a hydrangea expert. But my friend has one in the corner of her yard, west facing. It's up against a inverted corner of her house, so partially shaded. Everything i found pointed to it being a fungus. treated it with copper fungicide, a few applications over 2 months, and it finally went away.

These plants like certain soil PH. I think it’s acidic soil. You should check the Ph of the soil and garden centers have ph adjusters specific for these plants. I struggle with these due to the PH of my soil.

And if PH is good, same as previous response, black usually indicates fungal or overwatering too. So try a natural fungal spray with won’t hurt the plant.
