Hello! New here. I've asked a few other groups but haven't found the answer. Can anyone tell me what these spots are on my philodendron ring of fire and how to get rid of them? It's so beautiful. It is a new plant. The other day I loosened her roots and mixed her soil with some new soil. Thanks in advance!

I would try using a neem oil/neem oil spray on the leaves

How did the roots look when you loosened them? Did you see any signs of root rot?

The roots looked at little fuzzy at the bottom. Those ones basically fell off when I was loosening them up. So, maybe that's what it was and I hopefully fixed it? Theres a big new leaf coming in so I guess we'll see.

Check for pests. Treat if any found. It could be fungal. But, the color and leaf damage doesn’t look like a fungal issue like in my Hoya Obscura photo. It could be edema where the cells burst expelling excess water. It could be extrafloral nectaries (EFN) where the leaves and stems secrete nectar to attract beneficial insects like ants. The ants collect the nectar and guard the plant from insects that would destroy the plant creating a symbiotic relationship. There is not much you can do to prevent the plant from this behavior. It’s common on philodendrons.

Well damn, I hope it's not that last one. There are Nats around that area now, but that could also just be from moist soil I believe.

All of my philodendrons get spots similar to these from extrafloral nectaries, the plants produce tiny drops of nectar and can burn the little spots into the leaves when light hits them. It looks like it could be that but I’d have a google to make sure!

It doesn’t mean the plant isn’t healthy don’t worry! They just do it to attract ants to help keep pests away which is annoying, if you do catch any droplets of nectar on the plant if you wipe it away in time it should be fine! 😊
