Any help with this plant that a friend gave me to try and fix. I’ve given it a bath because it had a lot of lil black bugs but there is some other discolouration and I’m worried there could be a few problems. (Ignore the temp pot, he was in a better one before but I’m repotting him because of potential infested soil.)

Snip snip off dry and bad parts of leaves. You don’t want those bad parts creeping up the leaves. Discoloration is probably because pests eat the sap of the plant, and that causes discoloration of the leaves.

Just in case the soil is still infested, remember that moist soil is the perfect breeding ground for bugs and pests. Good luck with your monstera!

Thank I got your advice! Changed the soil, gave them a good wash and trimmed the bad parts. And the pets have t returned yet, I’ve been checking regularly so hope it works. Thanks again :)

It could spider mites. The plant has to be treated. Just washing the plant is likely not enough.

Spider mites are white no? And the lil bugs I had on this were black and they disappeared so far.

Spider mites looked like these on my plants. I’m not sure which color represents which stage. I had some black ones. My point is regardless of the insect, a simple washing of the plant may not be sufficient. Insecticidal soap, neem oil or other may be needed. I would carefully check in a couple of weeks. It might still have eggs.

Yeah I’ll keep an eye out and use a spray if they come back for sure. Thanks for the tips
