Hey! This is my Ctenanthe plant, Sammy, who lives in water. I received him for Christmas in a very healthy condition, but I do have concerns about a lot of leaves curling up and the discoloration. I changed the water once, but I’m not quite sure what to do. Help needed please!!

Did you put in regular tap? They can be sensitive to that.

You can try distilled or using tap with a water conditioner like API (used for fish tanks, just not the ones with additives, just water conditioner) but a jubif Distilled from the store for $0.99 would be an easier test.

Update: I changed the water again and cut off some of the dead growth. Any other ideas? Could it be lack on sunlight or maybe someone else has another type of water?

How much light is it getting?

Humidity levels could be low, I also know that those role sometimes cause their prayer plants and I’ve been told it’s normal, but yeah maybe put it closer to a window, and spray it to keep the humidity up. Mine like humidity

Mine has flourished since I put it on a plant light. I also have it on a humidity tray with pebbles in it. I spritz it every time I go into the bathroom, which unfortunately, is often…(that means it gets lots of misting!🙄)

Thank you so much for the help! I’m going to try distilled water and spraying it to keep the humidity up.

And don’t forget, if your site is low in humidity, I’d use a humidity tray. I also use a tiny humidity monitor, and found it helped to raise the humidity from anywhere between the upper 40s, to the low 50%. Good luck!

Audrey… I made a boo-boo; you probably already figured this out, but the tiny humidity monitor didn’t raise the humidity… L O L… 🙄…but the tray obviously did! I use these little monitors everywhere so I can keep track of what the humidity is in different areas of my house. They’re cheap, and I think really useful. I’d recommend using them both when working on your humidity issues.

Distilled water is key. Also pour out any old water - don’t just add water. Remove your plant. Give that glass bowl a good clean with mild dish soap and rinse well. Trim off the yellow leaves. Return plant to glass vessel and fill with room temperature distilled water
