I purchased this ZZ plant last week. I did repot, as it was absolutely trying to bust out of the container from the nursery. I now have this one shoot that is yellowing and unhappy. Soil is damp but definitely not over wet. The rest of the plant seems quite happy and healthy. Do I cut this little guy off?

I would leave it just to see what it does. It might come back. But if not in a few days then I would remove it. Or cut the piece and try to keep it alive in water near a window.

Thank you! This is my first ZZ, so I’m just not super familiar with her yet! Thanks for the quick reply :)

Yes cut it off but FYI you should not have repotted it.. ZZ plants love to be in tight spaces for a good minute. Even if pot is bulging as long as the rhizomes are covered in soil and the soil is not lifted away from the pot you can leave the ZZ plants I have had one of my ZZ for 7 months in the same pot it came in..

The rhizomes were sticking way out of the pot from the nursery, and there wouldn’t have been any way to add more soil. It was way tight/coming out of the top of that small container. Should I still have left it?

I would have a little longer however now just pay close attention to your watering and lighting. It’s a super easy plant

Zz plant shoots tend to come up a much lighter shade than the rest of the plant. Give it some time, if the shoot stays yellow or worsens, cut it off. The plant is probably just shocked from the big change

Could just be shocked from being repotted. I would let it go unless it gets worse then I would cut it off. Good luck

Just do not put this plant on a watering schedule the rhizomes store water for the plant. If you don’t have this plant in a self watering pot, then always use a soil meter to test this plant before you water it again. I can go almost 2 weeks even with my two being in self watering pots before I have to refill the tray

Oh yeah don’t over fertilize either or you will start noticing a white powdery mildew on your top soil. Only fertilizer between spring and summer
