Tan/brown patches on my peanut cactus. What does it mean?!
Looks like corking to me, which is a natural process that’s common with some plants as they age. It’s usually the plant’s way of trying to add extra support to stems and branches to prepare for new growth or keep the plant from getting too too heavy and toppling over. It’s pretty common with jades, but I’ve definitely seen it on cacti too. If I’m right, it’s nothing to be worried about. Hope this helps!

It’s very natural for them, and usually a good sign that they’re preparing for new growth, so congrats on having a cacti old enough to cork. It’s just doing its own quirky way of preparing itself for a long life 😊 my 30-year-old jade has a very corky stalk, but I think it makes her look like a proper little tree. She’s from my abuela’s 60+ year-old jade (here’s a photo of hers, for reference), so I consider it a badge of honor that she’s made it this long.
