   The white stuff? I think it’s minerals from the water reacting to the soil. Mine does that too. Mine plants are ok.

   Its fungus. It’s growing up the stem of the plant. Continuously moist soil support fungus and the moss that’s growing in the soil. It typically doesn’t harm the soil. A commercial fungicide will kill it. Ensuring the plant has good air circulation around it helps to dry the soil faster.
