This is my first time owning plants and it’s really hard to care for my calathea bc this plant is very complicated. Looking for tips and tricks. Also its got these se through spots and i don’t know what to do ab them.

    Hi! I have two, a red striped and white. I have them literally right next to my humidifier which is always running. I water when the top soil feels dry, ill also add water to the bottom of the pot and let its roots soak it up. They’re both sitting in a spot that gets pretty constant light but isnt close to the window so the leaves dont burn. Good luck!

    My biggest tip: don’t feel bad about yourself if you can’t figure this one out just yet. Like you said, they’re complicated. They can be picky, dramatic, and prone to pests like spider mites. I had one when I started and I ended up killing it, but now I know I didn’t have the right environment and wasn’t ready to give her the care she needed. I wish you luck, but if all fails it’s not your fault.

      Thank you for telling me, i am in fact a beginner but i feel like i am taking care of it ok. As you said they are SO dramatic

    Hey! I have a calathea and I keep it in my bathroom so there’s lots of humidity and so it’s out of direct light. I’ve noticed the leaves curl when it’s exposed to too much sunlight. I have an east facing window and it sits a foot away from the window on the same wall, so it can still get light.

      Thank you for sharing. I dont think i am ever gona put my calathea in my bathroom but its a very good idea bc the shower makes the bathroom very humid

    One thing about calatheas is that they don’t like the minerals in regular tap water:/ I water mine with water from my brita filter and that works fine for me, but some people use distilled, bottled, or rainwater.
