I dodged a bullet. This beetle rode in on my dog’s fur. My white hair dogs often get mulch and chunky bits tangled in the fur as they play outside. I automatically pull off the debris after 14 years of living with my dogs. This piece fell to the floor and disappeared. Found it on my peel and stick wall paper sample. An internet image search shows it’s a Flea Beetle. It’s one variety that is highly destructive to foliage and lays eggs in the soil and inside the trunk! They usually become active in spring. I suspect the above normal temperatures brought them out. Our temperatures have been 20°F above typical winter temperatures for over a week. It’s averaging 80°F temps here on he Texas coastal areas. I disposed of it by tossing it near a spot where cardinals and sparrows often come to look for food. It’s near a frog resting place. 🐦⬛🐸🪲 Nematodes and Neem oil in a 70% solution can get rid of them per google. Strong scented plants like mint, marigold, calendula and garlic deters them.
