I tried to use the app to diagnose my inch plants latest problem but it didn’t help very much. Does anyone know what makes the leaves turn this almost faded color? He gets part sun/shade but mostly late afternoon sun. I’m in south Louisiana. The first photo shows this one with the off colored leaves and the other one is further outside and thriving. He also gets part sun/shade maybe not as much afternoon though.

I don’t think it’s sun bleached, because when these get too much sun the get fully purple

That’s what I was wondering cause at first I thought sun bleached too but then remembered I have a pot in the front that hardly gets any sun and is turning the faded color also. Could it be something with the watering? To much or to little maybe?

It could be overwatering, but I think it’s either nutrient deficiency or an old branch dying off

How often do you fertilize? I’m not familiar with the color changes this plant has from nutrient deficiency, but typically faded color in other plants means some sort of deficiency. As I said, I’m not sure this plant would have faded green areas or if nutrient deficiency would also result in more purple, but if it hasn’t been fertilized in a while that could maybe possibly be the problem?

I think I fertilized it a few weeks ago. I’ll give it a little longer and fertilize again and see if it helps. The one out front hasn’t been fertilized in a good while so I’ll try that one and see what happens. Thanks

The next question is how much? Certain nutrients are antagonistic to others, and a typical NPK fertilizer can prevent your plant from getting enough other nutrients if it’s over used. The other nutrient are all usually minor, but it’s something to watch out for. Be careful not to over fertilize

I had one of those plants before and the more sun the darker it gets the less sun the lighter it becomes

Maybe over watering or old branches dying they do tend to cycle one in a while. They can actually handle quite a bit of sun. The more sun they get the more silvery and shiny the leaves will be. Everyone mistakes these for shade plants which they can be, but to get them at their most beautiful they need some sun. These plants are super tolerant does it have proper drainage? Can’t tell if it’s in the ground or not.

I think it does. I added pearlite to the soil before planting it in this pot

Is there drainage holes in the pot? That will make a big difference.
