Hello everyone! (Pictures of the orange pot are what she looked like before. Pictures of brown pot is what she looks like now.) I can use some advice with my philodendron. I recently got her a couple of weeks ago and she needed to be repotted badly. Her roots were lifting from under the soil and even breaking the plastic pot she was in. So I repotted her and I know you’re usually supposed to go 1-2inches bigger when repotting, but the pot I got for her was 3 inches bigger than her current one. I thought since maybe her roots were so crazy, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but ever since I repotted her, I’m kind of regretting that. I don’t really know what’s going on, but she’s been dropping leaves like crazy, and they’re all browning. If someone can help me understand what’s going on and what I can do to help her? Is she in shock? Do I size down or would that make things worse? She’s such a beautiful plant 🙏

Does the new pot have a drainage hole? I’ve seen videos of people bottom watering plants so they can suck up as much water as they need! Typically browning leaves either means they’re dry or too much sun. Did you move her location after the repot? She really is a beautiful plant!! Good luck ❤️

No there’s no drainage hole so I’m very careful with how much I water her, I don’t want to overwater her. I was putting her in the window seal after repotting her so maybe she was getting too much sun? :(

Overwatering almost for sure. You placed her into a much larger pot with no drain. So when you water, the entire pot absorbs the water including the part of the pot that has no roots. There is no way for that moisture to leave. So it will keep the rest of the pot wet.

So what would you suggest that I do? I only water it once a week, and I don’t really give it that much bc I’m afraid of overwatering

I would repot. It’s traumatizing to the plant but you are losing a beautiful plant. Remove the wet soil and place into a proper size pot with drainage. Because it’s having a rough time, I would just use a pot not much bigger than the roots. It’s a Birkin and good versions are hard to find. I looked for many months before I found a couple that were not reverting back to solid green. Yours looks to be a very good example of a Birkin.

Yours is beautiful. And i know, i hate that it’s struggling so much, it truly is such a beautiful plant and i havent seen any more at the place i got it from. If i repot it again, will it shock the plant more or will it help? I have smaller pots. I just dont it to die. Ive been trying my best with it and its still struggling

It’s been a few weeks now, if still struggling, I would definitely repot.
