hi everyone! I have this black velvet alocasia that has this random yellowing leaf and I cannot figure out why. The big leaf right above it is brand new, the roots are healthy, there's no pests...do the older leaves toward the bottom just yellow and die off normally?

If you’ve checked everything on it, then it’s likely fine. Alocasias are kinda notorious for dropping a leaf in trade for a new one.

Yeah some plants just work this way.

Like other mentioned, if all is fine, noting to worry about. I would add, how often do you fertilize? They are notoriously heavy feeder and that’s the key to not automatically lose a leaf when a new one pops out ☺️

Good to know! I just got her a week or two ago so I haven't fertilized yet but definitely will!
