I've inherited this amazing Umbrella tree from my partners late Grandparent. She was left sitting in a vacant building for about 3 years without water. We took her home last Saturday and her stems have not been doing great! Some of her leafs have started to wither and some leaf stems have turned brown. Her soil has been changed and given a drink of water but no improvement over the last couple of days and more leafs are wilting. Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? Really don't want to lose her!

Maybe give her some food and prune off any dead bits and mist the pole heavily She’s stunning I hope you revive her to her full glory best of luck

Thank you! I've given her another small water this morning and mixed in some plant food, I've also pruned anything that looked completely dead.... if she doesn't improve in the next couple of days I may need to completely depot her and check out what may be happening from underneath

That was going to be my next thought, she might want fresh soil and a root trim if anything is dead or mushy

You might also want to let her soak for half an hr So glad you rescued her

Yes that's the plan, I already had my concerns as her stem base just before the root system looked to be very dry and brittle! I'll do everything in my power to bring her back to full glory 🌲

It’s a small miracle it survived 3 years on its own. Repotting will damage and disturb roots causing leaves to drop. It needs time to adjust to the new location and time to adjust to the repot. This could take up to a month. Water to fully saturate the soil. Bottom watering may be best for a dehydrated plant. It allows the plant to sit in water until the top of the soil is moist. Small drinks of water, as you described, may not be sufficient. Give it bright indirect light and regularly fertilize. 🪴🍀

Thank you so much! Yes its absolutely a miracle, that's why I really don't want it to die on my watch 🤣 I'm aware they can get very stressed with movement etc so that's why I didn't completely repot her, just changed out some of the 'very old' soil. She's in a nice spot by a big frosted window so gets plenty of natural light but no direct sun as I don't want to scorch the leafs. I feel she will need a new pot soon though as the one she's in now does not have a drainage hole so this is also giving me cause for concern while trying to get her back to normal state as it's impossible for me to see if the water is flushing threw all the roots or not

Definitely switch out the pot to one with drainage holes.
