Hello, some of my plants leaves are washing out and turning pale. What could cause this to happen? At first I thought I was fertilizing too frequently so I stopped for a while but it seems to be getting worse. I'm wondering if my grow lights are too strong or too close now.

Possibly over-watering. The top inch should be dry before you water.

I’ve experienced the lightening of the leaves with my grow light with my peperomia frost recently, so moving it a little further from the light could definitely help, but I definitely agree that overwatering could be the suspect to. Do you let it dry out completely between waterings, or half the way?

I might have been overwatering it in the fall. I've unfortunately been neglecting most of my peperomias this winter because I thought their demand for water would lessen with the seasonal change but I've found out that with the grow lights they really don't seem to notice. I've had a few crispy casualties recently. It was my first time mixing perlite in soil as well and I waaay over did the perlite.

I’d let it dry out completely for the next watering or two, then. Peperomias can be pretty forgiving as long as they’re in a well-draining mix and kept in a spot they like. Mine are in Espoma’s Cactus and Succulent Mix, so I don’t need to add extra perlite or other amendments. How many days do you wait before watering it?

Between 6-7 days right now. I usually only pay them any attention when I notice one start to wilt a bit. Although this one doesn't seem to be nearly as dramatic as the others so perhaps I should wait longer. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah that definitely seems the be the culprit. I wait 14 days for my peperomia frost, which is in the same family as yours from the looks of it (I’m guessing yours is a caperata of some sort, maybe a burbella?) I don’t water anything outside of my propagations every 7 days in the winter. Try letting it dry out at least 12 for starters, and if it doesn’t freak out from that, push to 14 before watering. You might also wanna give the roots a quick check for any rot if it’s been watered that frequently. If you spot any rot from a root check, feel free to come back and add that, and I’d be happy to walk you through how to treat it. Hope this helps.
