Hi everyone! Hoping if someone could help or tell me how to help my plant? It’s an Emerald Ripple Pepper, but it’s been looking really droopy, brownish, and overall sad. Might be from over or under watering by who had this plant before me, or too much sun since it was straight next to a window, but I’m worried since I’m not very experienced with plants currently. If you can help, thanks!

How often do you water it? And does it have good drainage? I’d check the roots for root rot

I water it when I’m told to by planta but I think the person before me didn’t take care of it very well. It has good drainage but I’ll check for root rot: what does it usually look like if a plant had root rot?

In my experience the roots are brown/black (could stink) , mushy. If you slightly tug on them and they fall off it’s usually root rot. Root rot comes from the soil being too wet, too often

Thanks, I’ll check my plant for that now!

Just checked for root rot, and thank god, it doesn’t have it. Just a bit of overwatering by previous owner: they were watering it every week instead of every nine days!

It could need some more humidity as that can usually be a cause for the browning leaves. Did you realize that you plant and the one you have it categorized as are not the same plant? What you have is a type of arrowhead plant…not a peperomia

That’s what Planta identified it as… I’m new with plants so I didn’t know. I also tried humidity: it was in a bathroom before, next to the window, and it still started browning

There must’ve been an issue with Planta because I screenshotted your first photo and it told me variegated arrowhead plant. Water when the top layers of soil are dry, sometimes the watering schedules aren’t accurate due to differences in temp and light. Make sure to prune any fully dead growth and do some research with other plant websites for some better care. I don’t personally have one of these.

Thanks, I’ll reidentify it now and see if it changes for me!

There’s a way to change it in the plant settings too so you don’t have to delete all your info and pictures. I’ve had it mis identify things before too and figured out how to change it.

I don’t follow planta’s watering schedule because I find it to be very inaccurate. Peperomias prefer to dry out completely between waterings, so I would make sure to check before watering.
