Hello! I recently inherited my grandmothers plants when she passed, and one of them was a beautiful hibiscus plant. When we were transporting it, it was healthy and alive but when transporting it, we were forced to take it out of the pot and wrap its roots in wet paper towels. When we got home and repotted it, all of the leaves it originally had died. Im scared we killed the plant in transportation, but I can’t tell if it’s just stressed from the move and will come back. What should I do?? Is the pot too big for this plant? It’s getting bright direct sunlight, which I don’t know if that’s good for this kind of plant either. Thank you so much!!

It looks completely dried out based on the crispy look of the leaves/stems plus the soil has pulled away from the pot due or shrinkage. Additionally, terracotta pots pull water from the soil. Check the roots to see if they have dried. Dry roots can’t recover. Trim all the stems to see if there is any green areas left in it. There is a small chance it could get new leaves if both the roots and stems are viable. Put it in a pot slightly bigger than the root ball. Excess soil fully watered can lead to root rot. It dries out too quickly if under watered. Consider a plastic pot instead of a terracotta one so the soil won’t dry out too fast. 🍀🪴
