Dez GHmmm sounds like fungus gnats definitely clear out dead leaves, oh and some systemic granules this keeps pets and their larvae away/and dead you can get it from local grocery store or hardware store in their plant section (Walmart,target,Ace,Lowe’s) soil is a perfect breeding ground for the gnats it’s warm and damp. Also try the fungus gnat light trap they do look like night lights and have a blue hue to them and are super sticky. I use them and Omgosh didn’t know how many I have

BigGracIf you don’t see them flying around they could be springtails which are beneficial bugs. If you consistently water with mosquito bits/drops and they don’t go away it’s probably springtails. You can look up pics online to compare them to what you see in the soil
