Polka dot plant? So this is my mother‘s and I have a couple of questions about it since I am in charge of it for the time being. She overwatered it before she went to Vietnam so I’m trying to bring it back to life by placing it in a bit more sun, and obviously not watering . It is doing a lot better than it was 🙂. I’m curious about the curling leaves and the Spots on a few of the leaves. Is this because of the overwater? Also, is this really a polkadot plant?

This is an aglaonema not a polka dot plant.

Could be a Valentine variety or pink Dalmatian. There are a lot of pink aglaonemas. I love aglaonemas as they are one my easiest growers! They don’t like a ton of light so be careful with it being so close to the window as it can burn the leaves too. What type of soil is it in? Do you see any roots coming out the bottom of the pot or top?

Thank you! I thought so but wasn’t sure 😊 it’s amazing how plants can look so similar

Good questions. It looks like regular potting soil, I will have to ask my Mom when she calls. I don’t see roots, but it’s not the best pot to see them. I promised not to mess with it, so I can’t repot or anything. Just seeing what I can learn and help with 🤷🏻‍♀️ She will be back in a week so hopefully it will hang on until then!! Thanks for the tip about the sun! I will make sure not to keep it for long.

Gotcha! Well overall it looks pretty healthy from what I can see and will def survive the week. It could be curled just from the stress of a new location. The spots on the leaf could be due to a number of things like too much light, root bound, or pests so those are some things she could check on in the future.

It’s so big and full! Mine is tiny and has been a slow grower, but it’s about to bloom, so that’s fun. Well done for taking care of this beaut!
