help!!! My regal shields seems to not being doing too hot… I’ve lost some leaves and have been having some discoloration. I added something for it to climb to help the leaves from drooping as much. I feel like I could lift the entire plant right out of the soil…. I’m still a new plant mom and don’t want this beautiful baby to flop!! Any advice?! First two pictures are from today, 1/22. Screenshots are from yesterday, 1/21. Originally posted this an another group and have updated since: I watered it a day early with “Indoor Plant Food” that I have (you mix some with water) and mixed up the soil a bit to see if I could make the plant sit deeper in the soil. I also plucked off a dead leaf. It is currently in my bathroom (where I plan to give it some extra humidity when I shower tomorrow). Any tips?!

How much light is she getting? Her stems do look a bit spindly.

I had it near to I believe what is a South facing window (sliding glass door to my balcony) about 3ft away at one point and then I moved it further back. I was thinking of moving it to my bedroom potentially where there is a West facing window? Im not sure though.

Do you use the light meter on Planta? It’s not 100% accurate but it gives you a good idea. Some things I’ve learned about light that comes through a window…if your windows are dirty, if there are trees outside that cast shadows or obscure the sun even just a little, if there are other buildings taller than your window and lastly screens and sheer curtains can all greatly affect the light your plant receives through a window. Also for every foot away from the window light intensity decreases pretty quickly.

I haven’t! I only use the free version of the app so I don’t think I have access. Those are some good things to think about, I’ll try letting some more light in.

I checked the soil this evening and noticed little worms in it ☹️ I took it out of the soil and washed off the roots before putting it in some water. I don’t have any soil at the moment to transfer it to. Any tips on where to go from here? I made a new post in this group too…

how often are you watering? as in, how dry is the soil? these plants also don’t usually need support, if it is droopy it’s likely over watered and/or needs more light

I follow the Planta schedule for the most part, but I’ll decrease my watering routine and try to let it dry out a bit more. I’m going to adjust its place in my apartment to see if that makes a difference lighting wise.

planta cannot determine the moisture level of your soil exactly so it’s best to use the app as a reminder to check the soil’s moisture rather than a reminder to water. to prevent rot, always be sure the top 1/2” or so of soil is dry before watering again. a bamboo skewer can be used to check the moisture level deeper in the pot
