I bought a rescue Croton from Lowe’s to try to save (it was $4 and is nooottt in good shape). I can’t tell if it has spider mites or not. If it does (I’m leaning that direction), how do I attack it? I see so many different ways to combat it. Thankfully the plant is in quarantine faarrrrr away from my normal plant collection so they will be safe.

oh dear, crotons are notorious for spider mites. they’re also THE most finicky plant I ever had. had is the key word, haha. they also don’t like to be moved AT ALL!

Honestly, I was kind of wondering if it would be too much. I can’t dedicate tons of time to my plants, and they said it was high maintenance on the app. I have some high maintenance that are doing fine because I just water them when I have to, but doing all the other stuff, I don’t have time for. If this is going to be a recurring problem, that’s good information to know.

yeah mine was too much so when it did get spider mites, it went bye-bye.

Crotons want what they want. They like high humidity, heat and full tropical sun. They are used as hedges in the tropics because they thrive for many years when happy. It’s hard to mimic their tropical environment in a home.
