Hello everyone! I recently got my first Purple Heart. I’ve fertilized it as well as watered it but not sure if I should repot it. I brought it home from the store a few days ago. It’s also by a window that gets plenty of light as well. My question is, based on the picture, is there anything that should be done immediately to make sure it’s in its healthiest state? Thanks in advance!

It’s hard to tell how your conditions will affect the plant since it’s still experiencing the afterglow of the nursery. My experience with Purple Queen which appears to be very similar in form sans striping) is it’s a bullet proof plant and will muscle through just about anything. Mine thrived in full sun outside. Anything less and they would loose color, get leggy and hairy. Wintering indoors was a less than attractive period. They also did better when they dried out between waterings. Summer heat didn’t bother them at all. And they appreciated neglect. I have gifted mine away. They became too big for my space, especially during winter. Best of luck!

Avoid repotting new plants until 3 to 4 weeks after acquiring them. The time decreases stress. It’s allows them to acclimate to a new environment and watering schedule. Repotting is acceptable if the plant is infested, severely root bound or extensively damaged such that keeping them in the same pot causes more problems. Tradescantia Purple Heart is an aggressive grower that acts more like a weed than the typical houseplant. It thrives in full sun. It needs full sun to maintain the dark colors. Use well draining soil, diluted fertilizer (warmer months) and water when the soil is almost dry. The plant keeps a lot of water in its stem. So, overwatering can quickly damage it. Good luck 🍀 🪴
