I have some hoya obsura plants that are all showing yellow spotted leaves that eventually fall off. I thought they were being overwatered. So, I increased the time between watering to let the soil mix dry out. The yellowing still persists. It has been over 2 months. I checked the soil today. It still looks fine with no root rot or insects. I’m assuming the chunky mix needs to completely dry out for these plants to be happy. I’m open to suggestions.

Yes that is a sign of overwatering unfortunately. At least your roots look good so if you just let the soil completely dry out before watering and give them some bright direct sun in a window or a grow light they should bounce back. Treat their watering needs similar to a succulent as they hold a lot of water in the leaves.

Thank you. These are the only ones showing over watering issues except a hoya macrophylla in an 8 inch pot that had an excessive amount of soil with short roots. Cuttings on the outer edges were under watered. Cuttings in the middle sat in a damp root ball and had root rot. I had to dismantle the entire root ball to find I had two issues!

I would also suggest removing the bad leaves. They’re not going to improve. Then the plant can put its energy into the rest of the foliage. Also, new growth can always spring up on healthy stems at the node junction.
