Problem: I have 4 hanging plants and none have drainage holes. They are actually all doing well but I have done enough reading to know they should have adequate drainage. If I put a hole in the bottoms, water is going to pour out. I was thinking of putting stones in the bottom to let excess water catch below the medium, but I’m now reading that is unhelpful. What type of bases are on your hanging pots? Thanks in advance!

You can also get pots that have a tray attached, like this one, or use a cache pot with a nursery pot inside

These three do not have holes but are growing well. The goldfish plant should be in an E window but I don’t have one. I had two fish pop up last month and I was so happy.

Usually I let my hanging plants drip in the sink for 30/40 min after I water them, but in a pinch I’ve just duct taped a saucer to my hanging plants when I didn’t have time to let them fully drip out. Looked wack af but kept water from dripping onto my desk which was all that mattered.

The plants I have that are in macrame like yours I have drain holes in the pots and a terracotta saucer in there with them. I water them well and if some leaks out I figure the terracotta will absorb it. Too much of a pain to take them down all the time.

That’s a good idea! Yes, I can’t even reach these so taking them down isn’t an option.

If reaching them is an issue, you could also get pulley hooks to allow you to pull the plant down to a more accessible level.

I let mine drain in the shower for like two hours and then when I hang them back up, I put a towel below them just in case more water drips out but usually it’s not a lot
