Hi, I got this Orchid a few weeks ago even though I know they are hard to keep alive because I like how they look so much. All the beautiful flowers fell off at the top and all new growth stopped please help with any suggestions or comments. I would be very grateful for any advice.

This is normal. Orchids aren’t constantly in bloom. They flower, then the flowers die, then they eventually start over. If you want to give things a but if a kick start, trim the stem that held the flowers towards the bottom. Eventually a new stem will grow and bloom. I know with some plants you can “trick” them into flowering sooner by shortening their daylight hours (ie stick them in a cupboard for 16 hours per day) but I’ve no idea if that’s recommended with orchids or not.

They’re actually one of my easiest plants to keep alive once I got the conditions right and the watering down. What the above person said. Trim the spike to the base. Your plant will produce a new one when its ready (sometimes this can take a lot of patience!). If you have it in moss I would suggest repotting in an orchid mix (bark, charcoal, etc) right now. The plant isn’t flowering so its safe to repot. Moss is hard to make sure dries out completely. as well as decreases airflow around the roots. I’d move it into something with drainage to make watering easier to control. Orchid roots are like sponges. A good way to water is to submerge it up to just below the base of the plant, leave it for 10-15 mins then completely drain all the water out. I do this about 1x/7-10 days. DON’T do this method if its in moss, it will absorb waaaaay to much water and you’ll get root rot quickly. Good luck!

It’s not to difficult, but this is my advice for starters: take the plant out of the pot (with the plastic thing they come) water it when planta tells you. Make sure you do not wet the leaves! If they get wet, clean them with a dry towel. When the plastic pot is dry, about 2 hours later put it back on the other pot. Every 3 months fertilize with its respective fertilizer, it is not very expensive and orchids love it. Hope this helps..
