Ok guys, back to the umbrella plant. I’ve considered so many issues (scale, powdery mildew, sooty black mold, thrips, mealy bugs, spider mites… the app says it’s a watering issue and this seems way more complex) Help/thoughts? Updated photos with better light. Symptoms: -deformed and/or shriveled leaves with black discoloration on the bottoms -white and/or brown powder coating on leaves -sap spots on leaves -warped new growth

It’s like every leaf cluster has a different problem… my normal is to take home a plant, wipe leaves, neem oil, maybe systemic granules and worm castings. Haven’t done that yet in case I should hit this one with a firehose or perform an exorcism first

“Hit with fire hose Or preform an exorcism first”. Oh that made me laugh so hard.

Aw man your poor plant!! I inherited my science professor’s umbrella tree which was infested with scale bugs and used a alcohol based hand sanitizer to clean off the leaves individually. Maybe start there and see if that improves anything? All the leaves look like they could use a hearty scrubbing.

I would do like an INTENSE pruning, then alcohol/cotton ball the leaves you want to save. Be careful with the neem oil, I’ve had leaves disintegrate after spray them and it didn’t seem to be that effective on pests :/ If it were me, I might hose this one lol

The plant definitely has scale and possibly powdery mildew. You will need holy water made of alcohol and the tears of a newborn! 😂 Just alcohol to start to clean the slime left on the leaves by the scales. Scales are tenacious. They suck the sap in a slow kill method. They move like bedbugs. They can hide in the soil. Treat the leaves/branches and change the soil. Isolate the plant. I’m praying for you. This could take multiple treatments.
