Help!! I am a brand new plant parent, a beginner, so I don’t know much at all. I cannot, for the life of me, tell if I overwatered, under-watered, allowed too much sun… etc. Was thinking of repotting them, but I have no idea what to do!! Any suggestions before I waste my money, lol? Thanks!!

the first (yellow) looks like it may have been in too big of a pot. I don’t know that you’ll be able to recover that one. the others look healthy just a bit oversunned. I’d deadhead the old blooms and give them a bit more shade. as long as your pots have good drainage it’s pretty hard to overwater outside plants right now with how hot it’s been. hope this helps !!

This helps a ton and it’s not difficult to understand, so thank you!!!!! Should I try to replant the yellow one just in case in a smaller pot? And by deadhead, do you mean cut the head off of the stem?

you might be able to ! the blooms in the front of the picture look like they might have some good roots. you only need a slightly bigger pot that the total size of a root ball. and when I deadhead I usually trim all the way down to the leaves :)

Should I remove all the brown? And remove the heads of the wilted flowers or just the dead looking ones…?

Take off the crispy heads of the flowers. You have to do that every few weeks with flowers. New ones should grow. Flowers need nitrogen to bloom. You could supplement the soil with kelp meal or liquid fertilizer

Hey girl, so I will say first that the foliage on your plants look great with the exception of the yellow pot. Are they zinnias? Anyway, those are definitely heat stressed and a recovery is possible but it may take a long time before they fill that pot if at all. Veronica’s and Coreopsis, cut the stems back to the next set of healthy leaves. Gerberas stems get cut back all the way down to the base. Petunias are self cleaning so no need to deadhead unless you want to… but they can handle being cut back quite drastically. Don’t be afraid to cut them back to a shape that’s more pleasing to you. Deadheading your faded or spent blooms is a must in order to keep the plant flowering. If you don’t, they think that their job is over and they’ll go to seed (because they to spread and reproduce). Just make good practice in cleaning your pruners between cuts. You got this!
