So I have this Jade Succulent that I got as a gift 3-4 years ago and it’s been doing okay up until this year. I recently repotted it last week and the roots were very small. Today when I went to water the plant, I found that there’s a lot of new growth at the ends of the stems but the bottom of the stems are all dry and shriveling up. Is my plant dying? Should I try cutting off the new leaves and propagate them?

Check the soil, like get a dowel/chopstick and stick in all the way down into the soil till it hits the bottom. If the stick is wet, you have overwatered it. If the stick is bone-dry, you should probably water it.

Probably a lack of nutrients if it’s been in the same pot with the same soil for 3 to 4 years without fertilization. Even though all stems, petioles, and leaves, eventually dye off. New growth will sometimes take nutrients from the older parts of the plant. I would check the roots once soil is dry it might be time to repot and do a good spring feeding.

I’ve repotted it twice since I’ve had it (once about 2 years ago and then again last week) but I’ll definitely try giving it some plant food!
