Hiya, i have a ficus bonsai that i recently was gifted. Now, i am a novice plant carer but could use a few tips for how to care for him! His leaves are a little yellower and turning brownish since having him. I try to not water too frequently and it’s been warm here and i’m trying to keep him from getting scorched but i feel like i’m failing!

My ginseng ficus is in a very course bonsai mix so I water it every other day. With a denser soil, you will want to back it off accordingly. I have found it’s good at telling me when it’s thirsty (she gets wilty). But based on the photos, it kinda looks like you have a ficus benjamina. They tend to be very temperamental with environmental changes so it’s not uncommon for them to drop leaves when moved to a new spot. Their leaves will curl similar to yours when thirsty. If it’s in soil, I would get a moisture meter or stick your finger in the soil to let you know when it needs water. Benjamina don’t like to completely dry out. The biggest thing is try not to feel like your failing. We all have been there. And, regardless of the outcome, if you’ve learned something from the experience you’ve been successful. Good luck!

Do you know what soil mix it’s planted in? Is is grit all the way though or just for decoration. Because if it’s planted in gritty bonsai soil it needs to be watered frequently. I think you can choose bonsai soil in the settings.

You also have it set in “shade” but that’s a location without sun and it looks like your plant is getting sun in the photos.

Are those spider mites/thrips or just dust?

i’m unsure, everything is currently undergoing spider mite treatment and frequent wipe downs because i think they might have mites
