Is this early thrips? Noticed my ivy has a couple deformed leaves, one looks chewed. I’ve had this guy for a couple weeks. I did notice one pest actually moving under a leaf. My eyes aren’t the best right now but it didn’t look long and thin like thrips. Nothing else moved, no other plants are seemingly affected. Thoughts?

It could be thrips larvae, would definitely still quarantine just in case

Larvae… I didn’t think of that. I couldn’t figure out why they i could only find one moving. So, I gave it a shower and I’m not sure what now. Neem?

Neem for sure. I also just read about systemic houseplant insect control, might help as a preventative measure for any future pests. Bonide makes one!

Try Bonide Neem MAX I think it came out in the last couple years and is supposed to handle eggs/larvae/adults of many pests. I spray it on top, bottom leaves and soil…then wipe all the leaves down. So far so good for a variety of pests.

If they are thrips, then I’d suggest Captain Jacks dead bug spray. That’s the only thing that worked on thrips for me.

Thanks! I was literally just now looking on Amazon and about to ask. Someone had said something about blue and yellow sticky traps too, I think, to monitor them.

It looks more like spidermites, which is very common on ivy plants. Shower the plant to clean off as many bugs as possible and then treat it with your prefferred pesticide ☺️

Thanks! After showering it I haven’t found anymore (but my eyes aren’t great). I check it and clean the leaves too. Hoping it doesn’t come back with a vengeance.
