Root rot? Hey, everyone! I repotted my Philodendron Gloriosum in a rectangular acrylic pot a few weeks ago, I just drilled a lot of holes as drainage. However, I noticed that its roots looks like this, and there are some ant-like insects living in the soil? Any advice on what should I do? It’s currently shooting 3 new leaves out. Thank you!

    Your Gloriosum looks so beautiful and happy! From the photos, the roots don’t appear to be suffering from severe root rot; they look more dry or slightly stressed rather than mushy or black. It also looks like the soil is quite gritty, which may mean it’s not retaining enough moisture for a Gloriosum. You might consider starting fresh with a new soil mix and adding orchid bark to help retain some moisture while still allowing the roots to breathe. Can you take a picture of the bugs? They are another reason I would start over with some new soil. I use Neem oil for preventative and insecticidal soap when needed.

      I’ve repotted her to a more shallow and smaller pot, just about right for her size. However, some of the roots were already mushy, so I had to cut some off. :(( gave her a new soil, hopefully she won’t be too stressed with what I did. Lol. Thanks for responding. 🌱
