This is my Chinese Evergreen ’Crete’. I noticed that the base of the plant was turning brown on one stalk. The leaves were looking OK, and in fact, it was starting to develop new growth, but the stalk continued to brown and dry out and then started drooping/cracking. I cut that stalk off and cut away the dead part. I put it in water to see if I can regrow some roots and save it to replant. Then I noticed another stalk was starting to do the same thing. Any idea why this is happening and what I can do to save it? The stalk to the left is the one now starting to turn brown in the main plant. Pictures for reference.

    It is maturing! The stalk turn more woody and brown. It will also get tall!
