Hi! This is my dieffenbachia. I feel like I’ve tried everything—rinsing the roots and repotting, removing any root rot (though there wasn’t really much), and spraying the roots with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Is it a lost cause? (Top pic is how it looked for the first 8 months, bottom left is it a 1.5 months ago, and bottom right is how it currently looks)

Make sure your soil is not too dense. You can add perlite, vermiculite, bark chips, etc, to aerate the soil. If the roots are small, the pot could be a little large which slows growth and could lead to overwatering. Also, let it dry completely between waterings and mist it if you don’t have a humidifier nearby.

Are you using tap water? I found my diffenbachia is snooty and prefers only rain water. We have pretty had water where I live.

I am yes. I’ll have to invest in some better water!

Mine definitely loves our mid to high humidity (south Louisiana), and is picky about his water. We have great tap water here, but he still prefers distilled or rainwater. Plus tons of filtered or moderate light. Max got his own grow light this year and has been thriving ever since. Don’t be afraid to let them dry to at least 50% as long as your humidity is around the mid-40’s and up. And keep your “special” water well stocked!
