HELP?!? Had this Alocasia Polly for a few years. Was doing well up until a year or so ago. I think originally too close to a heater. Moved it away from heat/ac. Recently dropped second to last leaf, so down to one and it doesn’t look great. Repotted to a smaller porous pot with new mix geared for this type of plant. It was definitely in too big a pot and soil was wet for too long. Luckily the corm seems to still be in good shape - I transplanted before it rotted. Any advice appreciated!

    Honestly, speaking from experience, don’t fuss too much if it dies. I’ve had an alocasia stingray for about three years and about six months ago it dropped its last leaf after a big move. I never stopped watering it, the stump left, and still gave it the same amount of sun each day. It’s growing back great now! Alocasia’s can be very dramatic species and sometimes you just have to let them throw a fit and die so they can get themselves together.

      Mine dropped that last leaf a week or two ago now. I cut it down to just above the rhizome and removed any dead/dying roots and re-planted in a much smaller pot with mix specifically made for plants like Alocasia’s with excellent drainage but moisture-retentive. So far so good!! Trying my best to be patient. Thanks for the advice!

      That’s the best thing you could’ve done! Just keep watering like normal and keep giving it light and it should come back soon.

    This is one of the most difficult plants to keep alive. I had three, two died, am regrowing one of them. Next time you repot, give it a chunky mix so roots can breathe. They also go dormant if temps drop below about 16C.

      Thank you!! I found an awesome mix from Oh Happy Plants that is chunky and drains so well but retains some moisture without getting soggy. I re-potted most of my plants using their soil mixes and it’s nuts the growth I’ve seen over the past two months. Trying to be patient with this guy after I cut it down to above the rhizome. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
