Hi all! My Lady Valentine Chinese Evergreen hasn’t grown for months. I’ve given her slow release fertilizer pellets and moved her to my sunniest window, but nothing’s changed. Does anyone have a suggestion?

    hi! i would take a look at the roots. that soil looks a little compact, and evergeens have thicker roots, so they need chunky soil. there's also a chance it may be too close to the window, especially because yours' leaves are highly variegated. they are indirect light, so putting it to the side of or a couple feet away from the window should help. here's my valentine as my credentials, i had to move it away from my window because it was getting stressed and it's exploded in growth since then.

    Thank you for the advice! What’s the best way to check the roots? I’m worried about popping it out of the pot. 😅 and if the soil is too compact, do I just break it up with me fingers?

      you do have to take it out of the pot to check. it'll be okay, aglaonema aren't all that fussy about their roots. breaking it up is a temporary solution, it needs more stuff in the soil for drainage. pumice or perlite and some orchid bark thrown in there will help a lot.

    How do I know if the roots are bad? Just if they’re really short?

      The roots are indeed shallow, I’ve broken up the soil with me hands and will look into getting some bark for it
