Hey guys my Japanese holly Bonsai tree which I got on Saturday and I just noticed this little black ball can anyone tell me what this is. Acquired a handful of new plants since my last post! Left to right: Chinese Elm Another Elm (not sure if it’s Chinese or cedar) Orange Jasmine(my first bonsai ever 3/29/24) Tiger Bark Ficus Lead tree (mini forest) Live oak Flame tree (less than 2 months old) Wisteria, not sure which species Almost all of the babies will be repotted into small training pots this weekend And the big guys will get bigger homes as well It’s boring staring at each plant everyday waiting for them to grow 😅

Any tips on restoring a yellowing bonsai? It’s currently in a rocky soil mixture and lives in a window with a grow light.

I’m starting my journey with a Japanese red maple. I got it 2 weeks ago as a bare root. I potted it but I forgot to water it so today I cut it back to hand height and put the top two branches and put them in water to see if I can root them. I’m going to try to get the main trunk to grow stronger roots. It’s in top soil with 1” of bonsai potting mix in the bottom. The top/garden soil is holding water much better. I appreciate any tips. We live in west Texas so the weather changes quite a bit but standard is dry and dusty this time of year. It’s been indoors for 2 weeks. I have a front, south facing porch. What should their outdoor time schedule look like, keeping in mind the wind and dust? (Water root stems are named Sosho and Reisho. Potted, established stem is named Shoshin. … because that’s what they decided 😊)

Please help! Got this bonsai as a christmas present this year (i have never looked after one before), looked beautiful with many dark green leaves. Unfortunately over the last 2 months it has taken a turn for the worst, has dropped 3/4 of its leaves and obviously isn’t well. Watering with the bottom whole for 20 mins when plants advises me too, has plenty of indirect sunlight. Did use some liquid bonsai food on it (for about 2 months when planta told me to) by adding it to the water in the correct amount as advised by the packaging, stopped using when it started dropping leaves. My cousin also got the same bonsai tree for christmas this year and that one is flourishing in her cloakroom (toilet room). Any advise would be greatly appreciated! I have also posted this on the sick plants subreddit, but wanted to spread it to get more opinions :]

Hey guys, My girlfriend got me this juniper bonsai tree for a gift but idk how to take care of it other than give it water. I thought when it turned yellow its just the winter season.. but now its spring and its still like this. im not sure if its dead or i still can save it? Any tips are appreciated!

Hi Team Bonsai 😃 I’m a newbie to growing Bonsai with just a Chinese Elm & a Juniper to my name. Both were mature plants when I bought them. This Acer was planted from a cutting I took a couple of years ago & since then it’s lived in this raised planter on the Western edge of my garden so it’s been getting afternoon sun in a spot which is most likely too windy for it 🤦♀️ Fag packet for scale…😆😆😆 My questions 1. If I dig it up & place it into a bonsai pot, I’ll have to cut back the roots. How much can I cut back in one go when it’s lived in a fairly spacious border so far. 2. Should I try to size the pot down in stages or just go for it all at once? 3. What size pot would you recommend I go for? 4. Is a straight switch to akadama feasible? 5. Should I abandon the hope of transitioning to bonsai for this particular plant? Many thanks H 🤗

My boyfriend got me this bonsai for my birthday, no clue what it is. I’ve never had one before so I just watered it lightly with a spray bottle once a week, woke up yesterday morning and it looked like this. Any ideas on what it is or how I can save it?

Hi!! I’m new to this app and to being a bonsai caretaker! My boyfriend got me an Azalea bonsai tree for Valentine’s, however I haven’t been able to take much care of it due to me living in a dorm and not being able to allow it outside. With the end of the semester ending soon I brought it to my family’s house to take care of it, however I have little siblings and pets and I saw something about my tree being toxic to humans and pets. Does anyone know if this is true? And if so does anyone have any advice on how I can take better care of it, and keep my family safe? Before and right now pictures:

Very new to the bonsai world. Bought my first (orange jasmine) bonsai from a nursery about 3 weeks ago and recently repotted it. Lots of new growth surprisingly but I might have repotted too early. Also bought a purple diamond shrub a few days ago because of its neat trunk curve and I pruned it back a good bit and threw it in a 5 gallon bucket.
