I got this Albo for Mother’s Day. She has perked up a bunch since I got her and has had some new root growth. I asked in another group about her one leaf that is looking a little wonky and kind of warped looking. Someone suggested a repot saying the soil isn’t chunky enough. While I tend to agree I am SUPER hesitant to repot her as she clearly isn’t root bound, not really having complications other than the slightly weird leaf, and seems to be thriving. What say you all?

I would repot this for sure. Most of these leaves are looking a little limp, these roots need more air

Thank you. I just want to make sure it’s a must before I take the plunge 🫣

You can give it fresh soil without sizing up the pot

I am definitely planning to just repot in the same container. Thank you!

I think too that if you are as gentle as can be and maybe just add in some “chunk” to the existing soil without disturbing the roots too much, another repot wouldn’t be as stressful than as if you were cleaning off all of the old soil from the roots. Seeing this thread though I think I may need to do this as well as my leaves are limp. I did add orchid bark and perlite to the soil, but maybe monsteras need more than I added? 🤔

I ended up doing as gentle a repot with chunkier soil last night and it was REALLY hard to get the roots to separate from the existing soil so I added what I could new and put her back in with the root ball still primarily covered in existing soil. It was pretty chunky from what I could tell but maybe not enough I guess. I’m stressed she’s going to die (she’s the most expensive plant I’ve ever bought) but hoping just that little change will help whatever was going wrong. I ended up putting a humidifier in the room as well as I’m in AZ and our air is crazy dry.

Yeah, I do think they like humidity. I live in south Louisiana and my ambient house humidity is 55-65%, so that is one good thing about the humidity here 😆. I may be moving to Arizona though and I will have to buy a lot of mini humidifiers for all of my humidity loving plants.
